The CHA organised a successful group participation at the biennial Hortec 2010 for the fourth time, and continues to develop the strong links between the UK and Kenyan horticultural industries. We are also continuing to build and develop links across the wider East African region including Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda.
We are working closely with IATC, the British High Commission in Nairobi and other bodies to develop opportunities in the region and will update as and when information is available. UK companies wishing to register their interest in this market can click here to obtain more details.
Kenya has become one of the world's leading producers and exporters of cut flowers and has recently seen a major expansion in fresh vegetable production as well. In 2004 Kenya exported around 100,000 tons of fresh produce. Flowers represented about 40% of this total weight.
Kenya represents a major horticultural market seeking the latest technology to enable its growers to meet the demands of the overseas markets they are supplying. With strong historic and economic links with the UK it is an ideal market for UK horticultural suppliers.
Hortec, held every two years, is the principle horticultural event in the region and attracts visitors from all over Kenya as well as surrounding countries such as Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda; countries which are also seeking to expand their horticultural exports.
